Yorizon POC for Integrated Cloud Infrastructure

Yorizon entwickelt eine europäische Cloud-Alternative mit Fokus auf souveräner, skalierbarer und leistungsfähiger Cloud-Infrastruktur. Über zwei Jahre arbeiteten Yorizon und UhuruTec gemeinsam an einem Proof of Concept, in dem zentrale Bausteine einer modernen Cloud-Infrastruktur integriert und unter praxisnahen Bedingungen erprobt wurden.

The Yorizon collaboration was established with the goal of investigating and further developing the technical foundations for a Europe-focused cloud infrastructure under real-world conditions. The focus was on how different infrastructure and cloud technologies could be integrated into a consistent, scalable, and automatable platform.

The starting point was a heterogeneous technological landscape in which traditional bare-metal resources had to be integrated with modern cloud and container technologies. OpenStack served as the foundation for provisioning virtual resources, while Kubernetes handled the orchestration of containerized workloads. In addition, key functions for management, automation, and observability were examined.

Challenge

Yorizon needed a technical foundation to view the various layers of a modern cloud infrastructure in an integrated manner and to evaluate their interaction in a practical setting. In addition to the individual technologies, the focus was particularly on architecture, integration, automation, and the standardized deployment of infrastructure and workloads based on open source.

Solution

UhuruTec, in collaboration with Yorizon, implemented an integrated proof of concept. The approach combined physical infrastructure with OpenStack and Kubernetes and supplemented them with management and observability capabilities. Requirements were implemented iteratively, interfaces were developed, and technical approaches were tested in practice as the project progressed.

Result

The POC provided a solid foundation for the technical evaluation and further development of the planned cloud infrastructure. At the same time, it yielded concrete technical developments and insights that could be leveraged beyond the scope of the project.

This collaboration not only laid the groundwork for evaluating various technical approaches but also yielded concrete insights from operations and development.
