At the beginning of June, UhuruTec had the pleasure of co-hosting the very first official ALASCA Hackathon in Stuttgart-Vaihingen. Besides helping to organize the event and finding the perfect venue, we combined the hackathon with our UhuruTec Summer Party, creating two inspiring days filled with collaboration, innovation, and community spirit.

Around 45 participants came together to work on open source technologies for sovereign cloud infrastructure. The main focus was on improving project documentation, advancing automation, and integrating SCS standards as part of the FOCIS funding initiative.

Some of the key outcomes included:

  • Enhancements to Yaook, including a simplified installation script and improvements towards automated lifecycle management for OpenStack components.
  • Further development of Tarook, featuring improved documentation, OpenBao integration, and the first steps towards lifecycle management for Kubernetes clusters.
  • A collaborative proof of concept developed by Pacifico and dNation, demonstrating how cloud resource consumption can be visualized in an open source-based billing frontend.

For us, the hackathon was much more than a technical event. It demonstrated how open collaboration, shared knowledge, and an active community accelerate innovation. These are exactly the values that drive UhuruTec every day.

A big thank you to ALASCA for the opportunity to co-host this event and to everyone who joined us in Stuttgart. We are already looking forward to the next ALASCA Hackathon!
